J CUSTOMER STATES FROM TIME TO TIME THERE IS A SLIGHT BURNING SMELL COMING FROM THE ENGINE BAY. * 28698 Lower timing cover gasket leaking oil Verified customer concern. Found burning smell coming from the engine compartment. Inspected engine for oil leaks. Found oil leak present at front of engine between lower timing cover and upper oil pan. Cleaned oil residue and test drove vehicle to determine exact oil leak location. Found lower timing cover gasket is leaking oil. Drained engine oil. Removed and replaced lower timing cover gaskets and hardware/parts required for replacement. During removal of injectors, found all injectors exceeded max torque allowable using special tool 2 249 115 when being removed(tensile force of 2000 N). Per repairs instructions, the injector must be renewed if the torque wrench clicks when the injector is pulled out. Removed and replaced all injectors due to injectors exceeding max torque allowable upon removal (tensile force of 2000 N). During repairs, found intake suction pipes brittle and came apart during removal. Removed and replaced intake suction pipes. Refilled engine with oil. Performed commissioning oil circuit test plan before starting engine. Primed engine oil system successfully using test plan. Started engine and allowed engine to idle for at least 15 minutes. Changed oil and oil filter after performing repairs to properly remove all outside containment that may have entered oil system while performing engine repairs. Oil change performed on another line. Test drove vehicle to verify repairs. Checked fault memory, no faults stored after test drive. No further oil leaks found at this time after performing repairs. |
